I have the Salesforce Certified Force.com Developer. I got the certification in April of 2014. 60 questions, 90 minute exam I took at an onsite testing location. Passed it on my first try unlike the ADM201 exam (2nd try was a charm for me).
Now, I need to start a game plan as to what I am going to do with it next.
Salesforce announced that on March 30th, 2018 both the Salesforce Certified Force.com Developer and the Salesforce Certified Force.com Advanced Developer will be voided. They will no longer be recognized. Poof! See ya later. Adios.
This was known to happen eventually. The end date was never known until yesterday. But now that we know a date I will have to properly plan the next move. Truthfully, I know my next move already and it is to take Platform App Builder transition exam. I have been so busy with work and life that I just haven’t had the time to study for the next exam.
Here are your options from Salesforce:
As of February 1, 2017:
- Starting with the Winter ’17 release cycle, if you are a Salesforce Certified Force.com Developer you can maintain your credential until your next annual maintenance fee is due. However, when that time comes, you will not be able to renew your maintenance and your Force.com Developer credential will expire. But don’t worry, you will be able to transition to the Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder credential even if your Force.com Developer credential expires.
- If you are a Salesforce Certified Force.com Advanced Developer, or are in the process of earning your Force.com Advanced Developer credential, you’ll maintain your status until you transition to the Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I & II credentials.
- The transition exams are available until March 30, 2018, giving you a chance to earn the new Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder and/or Platform Developer I & II credentials before the retirement date.
- Full details of your exclusive transition path options can be found here:
I really do plan on taking the Platform App Builder transition exam sooner than later. Mainly, I have plans for other certifications in mind. The sooner I get the Platform App Builder the sooner I can focus on getting a Community Cloud or Marketing Cloud certification.
